Located in the centre of Prague, Hotel Botanique is an eco-friendly hotel and one of the best places to stay in Prague. We stayed in a Superior King Room during our trip to Prague and aren’t exaggerating when we say it was one of the most enjoyable hotel stays we’ve ever had. This article breaks down everything you need to know about why you should stay at Hotel Botanique and what makes them one of the leading eco-friendly hotels in Prague.

What is an eco-friendly hotel?

It’s no secret that travel is one of the least environmentally-friendly industries, with hotels playing a huge part in global CO2 emissions. It’s estimated that 75% of hotels’ environmental impacts can be directly related to excessive consumption of resources, meaning use of energy, water and waste. This manifests in excessive laundry processes (changing bedding and towels daily), wasteful heating, air conditioning and lighting systems, and a failure to reduce and recycle materials. Excessive plastic consumption, particularly of single-use plastics, is also a huge problem for hotels. But some hotels around the world are trying to combat these issues with new environmental initiatives that reduce waste and help to conserve the earth’s vital resources, paving the way for more sustainable hotel practices.

About Hotel Botanique

A self-proclaimed hotel designed by travellers for travellers, Botanique is comfortable, yet practical. Led by a ‘Be Green’ concept, the hotel is eco-conscious, allowing you to enjoy a more environmentally-friendly hotel stay. Botanique is focused on guest comfort, so you can be sure that you’ll be well looked after during your time in Prague.

A lot of the hotel has been newly renovated and is beautifully decorated. Botanique has collaborated with Lábus architects and leading Czech designers from the Olgoj Chorchoj Studio to create a sleek and modern aesthetic that is inspired by nature. This is immediately evident as you enter reception and are met by a wall of plants. Plans are in place to extend the hotel further by 2024, offering new rooms, a modern conference centre and more green spaces. You can explore the hotel virtually here.

Hotel Botanique’s Be Green Program: What makes Botanique eco-friendly?

Botanique’s Be Green Program aims to reduce environmental impact, reduce waste and conserve resources like water and electricity. Lots of little changes have been made throughout the hotel to make the day-to-day running more sustainable. Some of the things implemented to make Botanique one of the more eco-friendly hotels in Prague include:

  • Bedding is changed every three days, unless specified otherwise, while towels are only washed if put on the floor, conserving water used in the laundry process.
  • All rooms are equipped with energy-saving systems and ambient LED lighting, which uses less electricity and reduces the burning of fossil fuels.
  • Wooden room keys and do not disturb signs have been implemented in the rooms, to reduce plastic waste.
  • A snack market is available in reception instead of a minibar and refillable toiletry dispensers have replaced mini plastic bottles in the bathrooms, reducing single-use plastics.
  • The hotel brochure, guest directory and menus are online to save paper.
  • Amenities are made from long-lasting materials, for example cork coasters and bamboo straws.
  • Large-capacity recycling bins are available throughout the hotel and in the corridors to reduce waste being sent to landfill.
  • Nespresso coffee pods are fully recyclable.
  • Napkins are compostable and made from recycled materials.
  • An electrical car charging port is available free of charge.

Hotel Botanique sits in the heart of Prague and is located halfway between the Old Town and Karlin business area. Featuring a variety of solid machines, weights and workout equipment, the 60m2 space has undergone a €70,000 renovation and is ready to cater for any athlete, gym-goer and fitness fanatic’s needs. The gym is open 24/7 and free for any guest to use.

One of the most effective sustainability initiatives that Botanique have implemented is the Botanique Market – a small shop area designed to replace the traditional minibar. Packed with more goodies than a small fridge can hold, the Market is stocked with a variety of food and drink items, as well as a wide range of toiletries and amenities you might have forgotten, like adapter plugs. The Market is available 24/7 in the lobby and you can pay for items at reception. And don’t worry if you have leftover snacks, or you want to keep your beer cold, you can store them in the empty in-room fridge.

The ground floor is home to several lounging and seating areas, where you can kick back with a drink from the bar, including a snug and the foyer fireplace area.

Reception staff are available 24/7 to accommodate you and can also help you book Sightseeing Tours around Prague.

Botanique boasts two fully air conditioned, state-of-the-art conference rooms with strong, fast and reliable Wi-Fi and a built-in sound system, which are perfect for small to medium sized meetings, conferences and other company events.

There is a business centre on the on 9th floor with a computer and free printing, which is handy for any traveller needing to print off a boarding pass.

Long-stay guests and nomadic travellers will be pleased to know that Botanique offers a self-service laundry area, equipped with a Miele professional washing machine and dryer.

The dining area is spacious and the place to enjoy your buffet breakfast between 6:30 – 10:00 on a weekday and 6:30 – 10:30 on the weekend. It is also home to the Botanique Bistro, where you can enjoy lunch and dinner. The adjacent bar area has an upbeat vibe with a wide variety of drinks on offer.

One surprising thing we noticed was that the hotel always smelled so nice. Diffusers are set up discreetly around the communal areas that let off pleasant, yet not overpowering smells. We particularly liked the edge of cinnamon that gave the hotel an extra festive feeling, as we visited during the Christmas season.

Breakfast at Hotel Botanique

Breakfast is served in the ground floor dining area and incorporates a large buffet-style selection of continental, sweet, savoury and hot food stations. You can start your meal with fresh Portuguese coffee, a selection of teas, including loose-leaf mint, smoothies, juices, and even champagne on the weekend. Then enjoy a variety of warm dishes as well as cereals, yogurt, fresh fruits, meats, cheese cuts, vegetables, freshly baked sweet and salty pastries, breads and pancakes, which you can make in the pancake maker. There’s a dedicated gluten-free corner with lactose-free and plant based milks too. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and allergy sensitive diets are all catered for, ensuring you get the best start to your day.

Dining in the Botanique Bistro

Dinner at Botanique Bistro is a highlight and we’d highly recommend you book in one evening if you plan to stay here. Offering a daily menu, seasonal Bistro menu and gluten-free specials, there’s something for every tastebud. We enjoyed a 3-course dinner with Czech white wine and we can’t overstate how delicious everything was. A selection of dishes we tried include the Goat Gervais, Tomato Soup, Pumpkin Risotto, Baked Halloumi Cheese, Baked Vegetables, Grilled Green Beans, Chocolate Bean Brownies and Selection of Homemade Sorbets.

All dishes are made with seasonal and locally-sourced ingredients, which helps to reduce Botanique’s carbon footprint and supports local Czech farmers. The chefs are happy to adapt any dish to your needs and the wait staff are incredibly helpful. Allergens are clearly described in every menu and we were impressed to see that gluten-free dishes came out on a different coloured plate to other dishes, as all ingredients are suitably prepared and cooked for coeliacs and those with allergies.

Of course, room service is available and the kitchen also offer a takeaway service or delivery via Wolt and Damejidlo.

The Hotel Botanique Bar

The bar in Hotel Botanique is vibrant with a wide offering of local wines and beers, spirits, cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks. Happy hour runs every day between 16:00 and 18:00, where you can get 2-for-1 on signature cocktails (and they are so good!). We highly recommend trying the ‘Botanique’ and ‘Fire Kick’. A range of classic cocktails are also available and the bar staff are perfectly happy to make anything else if you have a specific request.

Check in and check out

The check-in and check-out processes are incredibly smooth, quick and easy. Early arrival and late check out can be arranged for a small extra fee, while luggage storage is free, allowing you to make the most of your time in Prague. We arrived at 5:00 in the morning and were luckily able to check into our room straight away for free, as a room was available (which is a perk of travelling in off-season).

Pets are welcome (for a small extra fee per night) and pet-friendly amenities are available on request.

How much does it cost to stay in Hotel Botanique Prague?

Now let’s talk about the price! It’s pretty safe to say that the Hotel Botanique is one of the best eco-friendly hotels in Prague. For everything you get at Botanique, we couldn’t believe how affordable a stay is. Prague is obviously a very popular European destination and that is reflected in the price of accommodation. Rates vary depending on the day of your stay and the season, but the average price per night ranges from $60 to $150 USD (and that’s very similar for GBP and EUR as they’re all nearly 1 to 1), depending on your room. You’ll be charged in CZK so having a multi-currency card like Revolut can be really useful to avoid high currency exchange fees from your bank.

Staying on a weekend is typically more expensive than staying mid-week, as rooms are more in demand. If you’re looking to save some money, we’d recommend visiting in off-season, between February-April and September-November when prices are lower. Christmas, Easter and Summer are the busiest, and therefore more expensive, times to visit Prague. If you plan to visit at these times, we’d recommend booking your hotel well in advance (which will also secure the best rate too). It is possible to book a room without breakfast, which will save you some money, but we’d recommend including breakfast as it’s extensive, delicious and actually saves you money if you change your mind and decide to add it on after. Personally, we think Botanique is very reasonably priced and provides insane value for money in comparison to competitors in Prague.

Hotel Botanique Prague discounts and deals

Botanique offer a variety of deals and discounts. Their Web Exclusive rate rewards guests who book directly with 15% off and complimentary breakfast. Early bookers who reserve a room 20 days in advance can save 20% off their stay, while those booking at least 5 days in advance can enjoy a 15% discount. Some rates include free cancellation by 14:00 on the day of arrival, with most rates requiring no prepayment (only a credit or debit card to secure the booking) and free cancellation until one day before. You can check out their special offers page for more.

How to get to Hotel Botanique from Prague Airport

As the Botanique Hotel is so close to major transport hubs, it’s easy to arrive by bus and metro. From Václav Havel Airport, take bus number 100 to Zličín metro station (yellow line B). From there, go to the Florenc metro station, which lies opposite the hotel.

Taxi and private car hire can be arranged through the hotel and charged to your room upon arrival, or booked in for departure. And if you’re hiring a car, you can park it in one of the 42 spaces in the hotel’s secure parking garage.

Things to do in Prague

There’s plenty to see and do in Prague and it’s all within a stone’s throw of Hotel Botanique’s front doors. One of the best ways to get around the city is on a walking tour. Explore the iconic Old Town and Castle or venture into the Jewish Quarter and learn the history of one of the oldest Jewish communities in Europe. Alternatively, see what’s underneath the city of Prague in hidden rooms, cellars, and corridors on a Medieval Underground & Dungeon Tour. And some of the best views of Prague come from the water, on a Vltava River Night Cruise.

No visit to Prague is complete without seeing the Astronomical Clock chime on the hour, but don’t miss climbing the Old Town Hall Tower for panoramic views of the city and of the Old Town Square. Spend a day on the castle side of Prague and discover the grandeur of Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral.

History enthusiasts can spend a day at Terezin Concentration Camp, a fortress town that served as a concentration camp in World War II. While those looking for a unique experience can embark on a Bohemian and Saxon Switzerland Scenic Tour.

We’ve said before, it’s really rare to find a hotel that does everything well – nice rooms with comfortable beds, strong showers with good temperature, nice communal areas, extensive breakfast, inclusive and delicious restaurant offerings and great drinks at the bar, all with friendly service.
